Those seats are amazing.
What did these sell for new?

I flipping knew I recognized that when I saw it on BaT I almost posted but I thought, naw I’ll hear about it. Here we are!
That is big money but such a cool unique car, those seats are ALL THAT.

To o much body color on other parts really doesn’t impress me. The blue wheels are awful and although the pattern on the seats is nice, the blue piping has to go.

Some of us LOVE body color wheels.

It certainly appeals to some people... and that’s ok. I’m not here to judge.

I typically do not but this car is the full package, it would look wrong without them.

To get to a high price all you need is two weirdos bidding against each other.

IMO wheels should not be body colored unless they’re steelies.

I’d rather have a 325 but the color combo on this one is WOW.

I’d never heard of the M Tech packages. I didn’t realize that BMW was using the M badge for non-M cars as long ago as the E30.

Yeah, I’m with you there. When he was driving it around he had different wheels on it, partly to keep these ones mint, and partly because it looks better with non-coloured wheels

Yup, they’ve been diluting the M brand to some extent for a long time

Pretty close to M3 money actually, I can’t remember exactly but it was one of the more expensive E30s

Yeah, I knew it would be expensive, but geez

I mean, the M cars that aren’t on a bespoke chassis like the M1 can be said to dilute that provenance, so maybe it’s always been somewhat loosely tossed around.

My friend who hates the C43s and M235is, M340s etc with a passion was very upset when I whipped out the E34 M540i on him and proved his whole argument wrong. Theyve been doing it for longer than Ive been alive. Its dilution, but at the same time I love the concept. With todays absurd power levels I like the idea of having a car focused on sportiness without being overpowered. You get the sporty suspension, diff, etc all that without necessarily having to be absurdly powered

Besides the M1, they’ve been producing M-branded series cars just as longs as the full on M cars. The e28 M535i started production in 1985, the same year the first non-M1 M car (the e28 M5) came out, so I’d argue the M brand was never being diluted and that this is how it’s always been.
